Often, an open conversation about the concern helps smooth out any wrinkles. If, after talking with the counselor, students prefer to transfer to someone else, ask the counselor directly or speak to a member of the front desk staff.

Although "Let's Talk" counselors are trained professionals, "Let's Talk" is not a substitute for psychotherapy or formal counseling and does not constitute mental health treatment.

The "Let's Talk" counselor can help determine whether formal counseling at SCS would be useful and, if appropriate, assist in scheduling an appointment. Conversations with "Let's Talk" counselors are confidential, with a few rare exceptions. Counselors may need to share information in an emergency situation when there is an immediate threat of harm to self or others. Student Counseling Services does not want anything to stand as a barrier to APSU students accessing and obtaining help.
